Helmsman SIP Network Server from Ubiquity Completes Integration Testing with Sonus' INtelligentIP Softswitch

WESTFORD, Mass., May 8, 2001 – Sonus Networks (Nasdaq: SONS), a leading provider of voice infrastructure solutions for the new public network, today announced that Ubiquity Software Corporation's Helmsman SIP Network Server has successfully integrated with Sonus' INtelligentIP Softswitch. Ubiquity has reached the "Powered" partner level of Sonus' Open Services Partner Alliance(R) (OSPA) by completing rigorous testing in the Sonus Interoperability Lab in Richardson, Texas. Sonus' OSPA helps empower standards-based interoperability between applications, third-party vendors, and Sonus products by providing a framework for producing end-to-end network solutions.

"Ubiquity is a welcome addition to the growing list of companies whose products are proven to work with Sonus solutions in a laboratory setting," said Terri Griffin, vice president of marketing programs, Sonus Networks. "Our alliance of industry leading vendors helps coordinate the many efforts underway to offer converged, IP-based voice and data services to carriers and service providers. We look forward to working closely with Ubiquity and our customers in building and deploying next-generation networks."

Ubiquity's Helmsman SIP Network Server is a component of the Helmsman Application Services Platform, a comprehensive suite of software components that enable service providers to provision end-to-end SIP service solutions. The Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) is an application-layer control protocol that has been established as a leading signaling standard for multimedia and VoIP transactions. The Helmsman SIP Network Server offers advanced SIP proxy functions to service providers for scalability and rapid provisioning of advanced features in support of customer applications.

"Demand for network servers that provide a comprehensive range of advanced SIP proxy functions is rapidly evolving and we are poised to take advantage of this opportunity," said Martin Sendyk, vice president of marketing, Ubiquity Software Corporation. "By teaming with Sonus Networks, we can help carriers speed the delivery global solutions for converged networks."

The INtelligentIP Softswitch from Sonus is a scalable, carrier-grade softswitch platform that provides carriers an open, cost-effective solution to the packet-circuit network challenge. The INtelligentIP Softswitch integrates with application software and media gateway hardware, enabling carriers to successfully compete in the highly dynamic and cost-conscious telecommunications marketplace. The INtelligentIP Softswitch also allows the carriers that build and operate converged networks to provide new telecommunications services for enterprises and consumers more rapidly and at lower costs.

About Sonus' OSPA

Founded on the combination of Sonus' Open Services Partner Alliance (OSPA) Program and the INIP PoweredSM Partner Program from the acquisition of telecom technologies, inc., the OSPA has gained significant industry momentum, with membership of more than 130 leading independent vendors. The OSPA provides a framework that offers service providers end-to-end packet-based network solutions using best-of breed technologies and applications. The goal of the OSPA is to empower standards-based interoperability between applications, hardware vendors, and the Sonus product suite. An integral part of the Sonus OSPA, the Interoperability Laboratory is the first in the industry where product interoperability is verified, trial testing is performed, and complete solutions are ultimately produced.
