Sonus Networks Receives 2010 Communications Solutions Product of the Year Award

NBS5200 Networked Session Border Controller Recognized for Outstanding Innovation

WESTFORD, Mass., July 20, 2011 – Sonus Networks, Inc. (Nasdaq: SONS), a market leader in next-generation IP-based network solutions, today announced that TMC, a global integrated media company has named the NBS5200TM Session Border Controller as a recipient of a 2010 Communications Solutions Product of the Year Award.

The NBS5200 is the highest-density, highest-scalability Session Border Controller (SBC) solution in its class with market-leading session capacity, integrated transcoding, and advanced signaling and media interworking. Based on Sonus's next-generation ConnexIP™ platform, the NBS5200 is the first product to combine full SBC functionality with carrier-class overload controls, integrated media interworking, an advanced routing and policy engine, and multi-access security gateway features delivered in an appliance form factor.

"Sonus was chosen to receive a 2010 Product of the Year Award for creating exceptional advancements in communications," said Rich Tehrani, CEO, TMC. "The NBS5200 has shown benefits for its customers and provides ROI for the companies that use it. Congratulations to the entire team at Sonus. I look forward to more innovative solutions from them in the coming year."

The Communications Solutions Product of the Year Award recognizes the vision, leadership, and thoroughness that are characteristics of the prestigious award. The most innovative products and services brought to the market from March 2009 through March 2010 were chosen as winners of the Communications Solutions Product of the Year Award. The 2010 Communications Solutions Product of the Year Award winners are published on the INTERNET TELEPHONY and Customer Interaction Solutions websites.

"Having the NBS5200 recognized as the Communications Solutions Product of the Year is a validation of our product vision," said Bob Bradley, product line manager for security solutions at Sonus Networks. "As service providers and enterprises began deploying advanced applications - including unified communications, video, and instant messaging - they increased the burden on SBCs, which began as simple, security-focused elements. While their original purpose remains, much has changed that requires a new class of networked SBCs. The NBS5200, the first of these networked SBCs, is a direct result of over a decade of Sonus's intellectual expertise and continuing commitment to innovation."
