Sonus Insight Incorporates Broad Set of Key Management Functions in Single System; Enables Service Providers to Rapidly Deploy Networks and Deliver Revenue-Generating Services

WESTFORD, Mass., September 6, 2000 – Sonus Networks (Nasdaq: SONS), a leading provider of voice infrastructure solutions for the new public network, today introduced Sonus Insight, a comprehensive, web-based element management system (EMS) designed to simplify the operation of carrier-class packet voice networks. Sonus Insight consolidates key management functions, streamlining many of today’s manual and labor-intensive equipment management processes. Additionally, through Sonus Insight, carriers can quickly build out their packet voice networks and bill for a range of traditional and enhanced voice services.

"Provisioning and managing large, multinational voice networks has traditionally been a very complex, time-consuming proposition," said Mike Hluchyj, Sonus’ founder and chief technology officer. "We’ve developed Sonus Insight to ease the management burden carriers are facing and to enable them to more rapidly roll out their networks and reap the benefits of packet telephony."

The open, standards-based management system introduced today is highly scalable, supporting hundreds of switches and concurrent users. Sonus Insight provides a complete set of management functions including configuration management, performance management, accounting management, security management and fault management. Sonus Insight manages all elements of Sonus’ award-winning Packet Telephony suite, which comprises the GSX9000 Open Services Switch, the PSX6000 SoftSwitch and the SGX2000 SS7 Signaling Gateway.

Sonus Insight presents users with a web-based, task-oriented graphical user interface (GUI) that eliminates the need to move between various management systems. The Sonus solution enables service providers to: rapidly provision services; monitor, isolate and manage equipment faults; monitor system performance; and collect billing information. Additionally, Sonus Insight seamlessly integrates into carriers’ existing operating support systems (OSS) via CORBA and SNMP interfaces.

To deliver comprehensive accounting and billing capabilities in Sonus Insight, Sonus also announced an OEM relationship with AP Engines, a provider of integrated service creation and billing mediation solutions. Through this partnership, AP Engines has integrated its financial-grade billing mediation software with Sonus’ voice infrastructure solutions. The alliance speeds the deployment of packet voice networks by enabling carriers to move telephony services from circuit to packet networks without disrupting the existing billing and customer care infrastructures. (See today’s press release "AP Engines and Sonus Networks Announce OEM Partnership to Accelerate Deployment of Enhanced IP Services".)
