GENBAND Speaks about the future of Femtocells at Femtocells Asia, Tokyo

March 23, 2009, Plano, TX - GENBAND Inc., a market-leading developer of next-generation IP infrastructure solutions, today announced that Dr. Natasha Tamaskar will speak about GENBAND’s worldwide femtocell deployments from concept stage through to deployment at Femtocells Asia in Tokyo.  The speech takes place at the Four Seasons Hotel Tokyo, March 24th at 2:45 p.m.

Dr. Tamaskar, GENBAND’s vice president of product marketing and management, plans to address the progress made in trialing and deploying femtocell gateways with leading operators across Asia, North America and Europe. Femtocells are small router-like devices that connect to a home or business broadband line and enable subscribers to use their standard mobile handset to obtain voice and data services from the mobile service provider. GENBAND’s S-Series Security Gateway terminates security tunnels from femtocells, and GENBAND’s G9 Packet Access Gateway hides from the core network the large number of femtocell access points by means of concentration, distribution and other critical functions.

Through partnerships with several leading equipment manufacturers, GENBAND’s femtocell gateways are integral parts of two live deployments and at least 12 active femtocell trials with tier 1 operators worldwide.

“We look forward to participating in Femtocells Asia and are pleased to share our experiences from around the world in deploying Femtocell gateways,” said Dr. Tamaskar. “Although we are still in early phase deployments, the technology is now mature and the industry has combined to make wide spread femtocell deployment a reality.”
