Next-Generation Voice Leader Launches Expansion Plans in Region

STAINES, United Kingdom, January 9, 2008 – Sonus Networks, Inc. (Nasdaq: SONS), a leading supplier of service provider IP-voice infrastructure solutions, today announced the next phase of its growth plans for Europe. The next-generation IP-Voice leader unveiled its plans today from its new European headquarters in Staines, just outside London. The company plans to expand into new countries with additional sales resources, bolster its R&D facility in the United Kingdom and add to its services capabilities in its Prague office.

"Europe is one of the world’s fastest growing regions for next-generation communications. Industry analysts expect this region to invest over $1 billion (USD) in IP-Voice technologies in 2010," said Hassan Ahmed, Chairman, President and CEO, Sonus Networks. "Sonus is strategically expanding its business in those areas that represent the greatest returns for our shareholders. Our expansion in Europe is one of the critical steps we are taking to advance our leadership position on a global basis and generate profitable growth."

Europe represents one of Sonus' fastest growing regions. During 2007, Sonus has significantly expanded its customer base in the European market - with new important wins and increased order activity within the region. While the North American market continues to drive significant growth for Sonus, the company is focused on additional growth opportunities in Europe. Today's announcement will enable the company to continue to grow and lead the industry by providing the world's most advanced IP-voice solutions to operators throughout this growing region. This will allow consumers throughout Europe to benefit from new services and network operators to garner greater returns from their most important strategic asset - their network.

Tony Morrish, Vice President, Europe, Middle East and Africa, Sonus Networks, added, "We are seeing phenomenal growth in the broadband and telecommunications markets in Europe and there is tremendous potential for the region to establish itself as the leader in next-generation communications. Our investments across the region reflect our commitment to bringing the value of IP-Voice to consumers across Europe and our belief that we can replicate our success in the United Kingdom in other countries."

"During the first nine months of 2007, Sonus has increased its high density gateway market share in EMEA by more than 100%, and in Q3, held the number one position for the first time in the company's history," said Jeremy Duke, president and CEO, Synergy Research Group.

Sonus first established its presence in Europe in 2000 opening its first major R&D center outside of the U.S. in the United Kingdom. The company now has offices in France, Germany and the Czech Republic. The expansion to its European operations will focus primarily on increasing its direct sales presence beyond these countries as the market for next-generation communications expands in Spain, Eastern Europe, Russia and throughout the region.
