Safari C3
GENBAND Difference
GENBAND’s Safari C3™ Multimedia Switching System is the only totally integrated, carrier-class VoIP switch incorporating all of the components that make up the voice-switching infrastructure and provides SIP and NCS-based features today. The SAFARI C3 is a seamless evolution to IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) and PacketCable 2.0 architectures. SAFARI C³ provides superior performance and reliability, significantly reducing capital expenditures, system integration and operations costs for operators while increasing network integrity, security and privacy.
Future-architected to fit within IMS/PacketCable 2.0 networks, SAFARI C³ allows operators to leverage their initial equipment investment in residential and commercial voice infrastructure and introduce next-generation multiparty, multimodal, multimedia services or “fused” services. These services blend high-definition voice, video and data creating personalized entertainment services for subscribers, regardless of end-user device or type of access network used.
Benefits
The space-saving and cost-effective Safari C3 provides dramatic advantages over deploying a distributed softswitch, allowing operators to achieve the following:
- Reduce rack space by 66-75 percent
- Minimize deployment time and resources
- Consume less than 10 percent of the power requirements
- Reduce cooling needs by 75-80 percent
- Use less than 1/10 of engineering resources
- Simplify software upgrades, taking less than four hours – instead of the multiple days for distributed softswitch solutions
- Reduce sparing costs by 75 percent
Overview
Minimizing Network Complexity and Reducing Total Cost of Ownership (TCO): Distributed softswitch architectures are complex, sometimes requiring up to 25 network elements. Safari C3 eliminates that complexity with an integrated architecture that incorporates all of the components that make up the voice-switching infrastructure including functions like call and session control, Media Gateway, Media Gateway Controller, Signaling Gateway, LI/CALEA delivery function (for wiretapping), Announcement/Media Servers, Firewalling and Call Agent (i.e., softswitch). It also avoids the need for their associated servers and Ethernet switches that would otherwise be necessary to support redundancy. In fact, GENBAND has seen in customer deployments a reduction of up to 86 percent in the number of network elements needed to deliver carrier-class VoIP services.
Safari C3 enables cable operators of any size to realize substantial comparative savings for initial equipment and integration costs, as well as the long-term benefits of impressive returns in ongoing operational cost savings.
Improving the Economics of Voice and Multimedia Services: GENBAND’s Safari C3 supports both circuit- and packet-based traffic in one voice switching chassis delivering carrier-class voice networking services as well as future multimedia integration, to fit and fulfill the strategic and economic requirements of cable operators. This design tremendously simplifies implementation costs by offering:
- Flexible architecture supporting multiservice, multimedia environments
- Single system requiring a single integration effort
- Simplified operations, unmatched anti-hacking and privacy
- Elegant migration from current voice service solutions
Business Model Flexibility: SAFARI C³ provides maximum flexibility for supporting diverse business models, including the following:
- Cap and Grow: Colocated with a Class 5 or first-generation softswitch connecting to the PSTN, E-911 tandem, LI/CALEA infrastructure, billing, voicemail and other Operational Support Systems already in place
- Class 5 Alternative: Class 5 features and functionality can be delivered while ensuring full regulatory compliance
- Unified Switching: Providing flexible routing and trunking capabilities for tandem switching
- PBX Trunking and Multiline Endpoints: Supports multiline services to customer premise equipment, such as PBXs and IADs, via TDM or IP
- Hosted Commercial Services: Delivers Centrex-like voice capabilities utilizing SIP and MGCP-based signaling
- On-Premises Switching: SAFARI C³ can be deployed on-premises as a PBX or an alternative Class 5 switch
- Direct Line Commercial Services: Can deliver advanced features to small businesses and small office/home office (SoHo) subscribers
Building Value in IMS Infrastructure: GENBAND offers an evolutionary approach to IMS and PacketCable 2.0, allowing operators to deliver advanced multimedia services today while preparing for IMS/PacketCable 2.0 migration in the future. Today, operators can build value in the network by streamlining operations through Safari C3, and then migrate those functions to serve as IMS Access and Transport layer logical functions.
