GENBAND Difference
Today’s service providers struggle to manage the speed, complexity and competitive pressures of a tough telecom marketplace. To succeed, they must have the ability to connect disparate networks, to deliver popular multimedia services over multiple transport protocols, and to manage calls, signaling and other key tasks. And they must do it all seamlessly, reliably and at an affordable cost.
Now service providers can meet those challenges: with a market-proven media gateway solution from GENBAND. The GENBAND mG15K Media Gateway is a trunking gateway that delivers toll-quality voice on a carrier-grade platform. The mG15K uses IP and/or ATM protocols to allow service providers to migrate TDM voice trunking to a packet-based infrastructure. The mG15K from GENBAND serves as a high-density IP trunk gateway for global Voice over IP (VoIP) applications with the GENBAND C20 family.
Benefits
- A high density (48,384 ports per frame), carrier-grade VoIP trunk media gateway that maximizes service offerings while bridging TDM networks to next-generation packet networks in line with IMS and IP standards (including ITU-T G.799.1)
- Over a decade of media gateway experience with more than 120 million VoIP ports deployed in wireless and wireline networks
- Can be deployed in any (or all) of the following:
- Wire lines Class 4 VoIP trunking: Collapsing existing TDM transit/trunking solution to a cost efficient VOIP core. Depending on deployment scenario, can provide 90 percent fewer trunks and improved successful call rate with 40 percent fewer call attempts.
- Wireless transit: Cost-efficiently interconnecting MSCs over a VoIP core network, avoiding costly long distance transit TDM interconnect.
- Low cost international voice interconnect: By deploying an MG15K, carriers or IPX carriers who only have data presence in certain countries, can offer low cost international voice calls in combination with C20 in those countries with PRI interconnect, with a local operator providing local numbers.
- Low cost International Business trunking: Cost effectively interconnect international business offices TDM PBXs via PRI/QSIG and/or V 5.2
- Low cost international/long distance SMS roaming: Similar to the above, but using SIGTRAN M2UA of MG15K for transporting SMS in roaming networks back to subscribers home mobile network.
- 99.999% reliable providing PSTN quality voice.
- Not just voice: Reliable transport of fax via IP fax relay (T.38), modems via voice band data, and tones via IP tone relay (RFC 2833).
Overview
Packet Voice Features: The mG15K leverages open interfaces and industry standards to deliver robust PSTN connectivity. This media gateway provides network flexibility and inter-networking capabilities with third-party switches, routers and integrated access devices. The mG15K also offers carrier-grade performance and scalability, with better than 9s (99.999%) reliability and the DSO port and call processing capabilities needed to support a toll-quality voice network.
Multiple Next-Generation Network Applications: Service providers can use the mG15K to ensure single platform support for the delivery of all service types simultaneously. This multi-service support capability can help simplify operations while reducing the total cost of ownership. For greater bandwidth efficiency, this media gateway provides voice applications with IP and ATM for PSTN-quality voice service.
Deployment Flexibility: The mG15K can be co-located with the C20 or located up to 2,000 fiber miles from the host communications server, giving service providers greater deployment flexibility. The mG15K is ideally suited to provide switching services with carrier VoIP communications servers, and is the trunk gateway option for carriers seeking to interface with the GENBAND C20.
Bandwidth and Trunk Cost Savings: By moving voice traffic from the PSTN to the data network, this media gateway can save up to 66 percent of the bandwidth on leased trunk lines. Deployed between tandem switching offices or wireless switching centers, the mG15K uses voice compression and silence detection/suppression for both IP and ATM applications.
Powerful Voice Transport:
More Efficient Switched Services: The mG15k supports ISUP, PRI, QSIG and PTS Trunking, as well as, SIGTRAN backhaul with IUA, M2UA and V5UA.
By using the mG15K to switch calls, service providers can reduce the capital expense associated with traditional telephony networks. Packet-based networks also flatten the call handling architecture, and can thus deliver more reliable and efficient call switching. The mG15K interworks smoothly with the SS7 signaling network to handle connection setup and takedown, and to manage the media stream. Integrated interfaces allow the mG15K to interoperate cleanly in a multivendor environment. GENBAND media gateway is hardened for deployment in outside plant cabinets.
End User Benefits:
- Perform long distance/international calls for residential and business customers with existing Voice, Fax & Modem PSTN features and voice quality at a lower cost and selecting the long distance carrier of choice
- Perform low cost SMS calls when roaming abroad
- Businesses can reduce costs with low cost inter-office IP business links through PBX trunking
Carrier Benefits:
- Lower OPEX & CAPEX by collapsing TDM access over IP network
- Expand subscriber base by offering low cost long distance calls and mobile SMS by cost-effectively reaching subscribers around the globe
- VoIP Trunking and Interconnect lays the foundation for advanced multimedia features
Packet Core Switching: As a core packet switch connecting carrier VoIP network gateways through fully protected OC-3/STM-1 links, the mG15K routes the signaling and bearer traffic over a broadband packet backbone network.
Carrier-Grade Reliability: The mG15K delivers full redundancy for all components. All mG15K cards are hot-swappable and the gateway provides for hitless software migration.
