Media Gateway 9000

What does it take to compete and prosper in today's competitive telecom environment? As services and technologies become more complex, service providers must have the ability to connect disparate networks, to enable multimedia communications over multiple transport protocols, and to efficiently manage calls, signaling and other variables. That's a tall order. The good news is that GENBAND offers a powerful media gateway solution designed specifically to meet those tough requirements.

The GENBAND Media Gateway 9000 (mG9K) enables subscriber lines to connect directly to an ATM/IP packet backbone. Service providers can deploy the mG9K with the GENBAND CS 2000 to deliver switched services such as POTS and non-switched services such as ADSL. This carrier-grade gateway supports a long list of narrowband and broadband services simultaneously, including all DMS-100 line services, without the need for an overlay network thereby enabling central office consolidation and modernization.

Carrier Grade Reliability

The GENBAND mG9K provides the robust performance needed in today's competitive telecom marketplace. This media gateway delivers full redundancy for all components, and incorporates advanced isolation features to help prevent any fault from disrupting other services. For ATM networks, self-healing switched virtual circuits are used to transport voice and data traffic. If an ATM network path is lost, the mG9K automatically reestablished the connection through an alternate backbone pathway. So provider networks stay and running, delivering the profitable services consumers expect.

Broad Service Capabilities

The mG9K packs a host of capabilities into a single media gateway platform. The feature-rich MG9K supports a long list of broadband and narrowband services simultaneously, including key DMS line services. As an integrated access platform, this gateway integrates seamlessly into existing networks, supporting a wide range of subscriber-side interfaces and revenue-generating services.

The mG9K support narrowband POTS, residential and Custom Local Area Signaling Services (CLASS). It also supports traditional line types such as Centrex, Coin, ground start and Meridian Business Set. Service Providers can rely on this media gateway to deliver structured and unstructured DS-1, fractional DS-1, and DS-1 grooming for Circuit Emulation Services, and for private leased lines over ATM networks.

The mG9K also supports POTS + Digital Subscriber Line (xDSL) options, including ADSL (full-rate Discrete Multi-Tone) with no need for splitters or DSLAM equipment. The mG9K also integrates smoothly with BASG 7500/7600 Series Mini-DSLAM Series to deliver exceptional DSL performance.

A Scalable, Flexible Architecture

The mG9K gives service providers a wide range of deployment options. This highly flexible platform scales economically to support over 7,900 POTS lines across multiple shelves, all off of a single network interface. The integrated POTS + ADSL service can support up to 112 ADSL + POTS lines from a single shelf. The mG9K's maximum frame capacity with the BASG 7500/7600 Series configuration is 1440 POTS, 224 DSL w/o 8x8, or 1128 POTS, 328 DSL w/8x8. This GENBAND media gateway is hardened for deployment in outside plant cabinets.

Integrated POTS + ADSL Services

The mG9K features a combined POTS and ADSL ServiceModule capable of supporting a number of subscribers and providing both POTS and full-rate ADSL services over a single twisted pair loop. An internal frequency splitter onboard this ServiceModule separates the POTS and ADSL services for independent processing and packetization. This capability enables the mG9K to economically support both of these services without the costly external splitter required by architectures with separate POTS and ADSL platforms. Thus, service providers can deploy a single mG9K to replace separate and unique platforms, reducing both architectural complexity and cost.

Performance, Cost & Market Advantages

Forward-looking service providers can deploy the mG9K to boost network performance, control costs and open new revenue opportunities. The MG9K has the ability to host existing DMS line and trunk peripherals and industry-standard remotes, ensuring a smooth upgrade of DMS and other switching centers to full packet capability. Support for hosted peripherals includes mG9K intraswitching capability, dynamic packet trunking capability, emergency standalone and echo cancellation.

When deployed in a Local VoIP configuration, the mG9K may be located up to 950 air miles (1,425 fiber miles) from a Communication Server 2000. With this deployment range, a single centrally located CS 2000 can support two mG9Ks located almost 2,000 air miles (almost 3,000 fiber miles) apart. This range allows carriers to enter into new markets with a minimal investment when compared to the cost of a traditional TDM network.

This GENBAND media gateway also provides Emergency Stand Alone (ESA) capability to support basic intraswitched POTS service and E911 translations in ESA mode for native lines, DMS peripheral lines and standard DLC lines.

Note:  The GENBAND products mG15K, mG9K, and A6K are branded MG 15000, MG9000, and WMG6000 in Canada and France. In all other countries, the product names mG15K, mG9K, and A6K are used.
