IP Trunking

Faced with stiff competition for voice customers, fixed line operators are seeking new ways to become more competitive by reducing costs in their networks. GENBAND’s IP Trunking solution lowers network costs by enabling voice services to be carried over the IP core network.

IP networks provide significant cost advantages for transporting all types of communications, and operators in the last few years have made their IP core networks extremely robust and reliable. However, many operators are not yet using their IP network for voice traffic. This creates two parallel, disparate networks -- a very efficient IP core for data and a legacy circuit core for voice -- increasing costs and impacting operator competitiveness.

GENBAND's distributed IP Trunking solution provides a secure and cost-effective border between IP and circuit networks, lowering network costs by allowing voice traffic to be carried efficiently over the IP core network. This solution uses the C3 Signaling Controller for centralized, advanced routing and G9 Converged Gateways at distributed locations for voice and signaling transport.

With its high capacity TDM matrix, the G9 supports high quality, low latency tandem switch augmentation or replacement. The G9 also provides an IP matrix to enable a variety of trunking options, including cost-effective IP trunking between central offices as well as International gateway and VoIP termination services for new revenue generation.

Benefits

  • Enables multiple advanced VoIP applications including long distance bypass, IP tandem, International gateway and VoIP termination services
  • Reduces total cost of network ownership by replacing TDM trunks with VoIP in the network core, using distributed media gateways with centralized control and routing
  • Highly scalable, carrier class, network-proven solution supporting millions of calls, with a geographically-redundant architecture that can be deployed across a continent
  • Provides advanced routing, translations, and transport supporting TDM and SS7/C7 interfaces worldwide
  • Improves transport efficiencies with state-of-the-art traffic management including multiprotocol label switching traffic engineering (MPLS-TE), and open shortest path first (OSPF) routing
  • Packet support includes SIP, SIP-T, H.323, MGCP, and H.248
  • Compact and mid-sized G2 and G6 gateways can also be deployed for IP trunking in lower density or edge networks
  • Solution components seamlessly migrate to the PSTN gateway solution in IMS compliant networks
