S2 Integrated Border Gateway

Service providers are rapidly deploying IP networks to enable cost reductions and new offerings like fixed mobile convergence (FMC) services. Internet connectivity and open, diverse IP protocols used in these new services offer extensive flexibility -- but they also make security, session management, policy enforcement, and interoperability a challenge.

GENBAND's S2 Integrated Border Gateway (IBG) provides network border solutions for mobile and fixed line operators, integrating high value, closely-aligned features that control signaling and voice or data streams between end users and the network operator, or between network operators. The S2 IBG provides the security, QoS, and IP mobility required to manage revenue-generating, new voice and multimedia sessions for all IP-based applications, including: Femtocell, Voice over WiMAX, Voice over WiFi/WLAN access, Secured VoIP Access (UNI), Secured IP Network Interconnect or VoIP Peering (NNI), Secured IM, Presence, Messaging, Gaming, and IPTV.

The S2 IBG hardware is a purpose-built, carrier-class Advanced Telecom Computing Architecture (ATCA), 2-slot chassis. It offers full high-availability (HA) with sub-second failover and supports hot-swappable components, with in-service platform upgrades.

The S2 IBG provides multiple functions in the form of chassis modules, including:

Security Gateway for the S2 IBG: The Security Gateway module allows mobile operators to offer scalable FMC solutions, including femtocells and WiFi/WLAN, advancing high-quality voice and multimedia services to residential and business mobile subscribers at their homes or places of work. It provides security, user authentication, mobile-IP connectivity management, secured tunnel management, policy enforcement, and accounting, monitoring each FMC connection for IP intrusion and attacks, and it filters and firewalls mobile control protocols. This high speed, highly capable module scales to 200,000 IPSec sessions and setup at 500 tunnels per second with complete HA.

Session Border Controller for the S2 IBG: The SBC module delivers security, policy enforcement, and session management for real-time communications in mobile and fixed line operator networks, enabling new service offerings, rapid revenue generation and network cost-savings. The SBC module is an ATCA single board computer solution that is engineered for carrier-class performance and offers symmetric multiprocessing performance with next generation dual processors. It is an ideal solution for successfully deploying GENBAND's high-performance, carrier-grade SBC functionality in an industry-standard ATCA platform.
